Welcome to Cili Chinese ("we", "us", "our"). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our Chinese language learning application.

Information We Collect

  • Account Information: Email address and display name when you create an account (via email/password or Google sign-in).
  • Learning Progress: Completed lessons, quiz scores, IQ points, streak data, and vocabulary progress — used to track and display your learning journey.
  • Usage Data: General app interactions (pages visited, features used) to improve our service. We do not track your location or device identifiers.

How We Use Your Data

  • To provide and personalize your learning experience (progress tracking, leaderboard ranking, streaks)
  • To display your profile on the public leaderboard (display name, IQ, avatar only)
  • To process Premium subscriptions and payments via Lemon Squeezy
  • To improve the app and fix bugs — we never sell your personal data to third parties

Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely on Google Firebase (Firestore) with encryption in transit and at rest. Sensitive billing information is stored in a protected subcollection accessible only to your account and our server-side functions. We use Firebase App Check and reCAPTCHA to prevent abuse.

Third-Party Services

  • Firebase (Google): Authentication, database, and hosting (Google Cloud infrastructure)
  • Google AdSense: Displays ads to free-tier users. Google may use cookies for ad personalization per their privacy policy. Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
  • Lemon Squeezy: Processes Premium subscription payments. Your payment details are handled entirely by Lemon Squeezy and never touch our servers.

Cookies & Local Storage

We use browser local storage to save your preferences (language, theme, avatar cache) and Firebase uses cookies for authentication. Google AdSense may set cookies for ad personalization. You can manage cookie preferences in your browser settings.

Children's Privacy

Cili is designed for learners of all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and all associated data
  • Opt out of ad personalization through your browser or Google Ad Settings
